Dr Molinar out at Fort Worth ISD.

Texas Education Agency (TEA) has made the decision to replace Molinar

At last week’s Rotary Fort Worth’s weekly meeting, Dr Karen Molinar was given a standing ovation after she shared with the group business and community leaders the recorded recent improvements and her emphasis on dedication to continued improving FWISD by investing in systems that supported and held accountable the principals, teachers, staff and all levels of those involved with FWISD. But as of March 4, 2026, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has made the decision to replace Molinar and install a board of managers following a failed appeal of a state takeover. The goal of the state is to seek and implement rapid improvements, under a new superintendent and board to be appointed in the coming weeks.

Families Organized Resisting Takeover (FORT), as well as others in the community are expressing strong concern following the notification from Dr. Karen Molinar that she was not selected by Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath to continue as Superintendent of Fort Worth ISD.

In a statement from FORT and Zach Leonard, “Dr. Molinar, a long-time FWISD leader, has earned broad trust from teachers, principals, and staff. Under her leadership over the past 18 months, FWISD recorded major improvements in student outcomes across multiple academic areas. Her removal creates new uncertainty for the district at a time when stability is essential.
Educators were already anxious about the future of FWISD under state intervention. This leadership change increases the risk of significant teacher and staff turnover, which would directly impact student learning and campus stability.”
