Fort Worth ISD president elected to state leadership post

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has elected Jacinto Ramos Jr. to fill an interim position on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 11, Position B.

Ramos is president of the Fort Worth ISD Board of Education. Ramos also is president-elect of the Mexican American School Boards Association and chair of the National School Boards Association’s Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE).

Ramos is a member of the Council of the Great City Schools, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, and Center for Reform of School Systems. He is part of the Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color, where he is the only Texas school board member on the advisory team.

He is a certified probation officer in the state of Texas, currently working in Tarrant County. He also is a former co-director of the Multicultural Alliance’s Camp CommUNITY and an affiliate of Courageous Conversations About Race.

Ramos has a degree in criminal justice and criminology from The University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s in family studies from Amberton University. He is currently working on his doctorate in educational leadership and administration.

He has received many awards for his service to his community, such as the Superior Achievement Award by the National Organization of Hispanics in Criminal Justice, the 2010 Mike Moncrief Believing in Youth Award from Santa Fe Youth Services, and the Visionary Edict Award from Magdaleno Leadership Institute. He also was inducted into the Tarrant County Fatherhood Coalition Fathers’ Hall of Fame in 2010.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local public school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.3 million students.
