Marine arrested in slaying of North Texas college student

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Authorities say the man arrested in the fatal shooting of a college student in Texas is a Marine stationed in Arizona.

The U.S. Marine Corps released a statement Tuesday saying Cpl. Eric Johnson was taken into custody at the north gate of the Marine Corps air station in Yuma, Arizona.

Johnson was arrested on a murder warrant in the death of 20-year-old Sara Mutschlechner. The University of North Texas student was fatally shot while driving on New Year’s Day in Denton.

Investigators say the shooting occurred during an exchange of words between people in the vehicle Mutschlechner was driving and people in an SUV.
