Official: Body on beach may be that of teen missing in Gulf

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — A Coast Guard spokeswoman says a body found on Padre Island National Seashore may be that of a North Texas teen who disappeared in rough waters in the Gulf of Mexico at Corpus Christi last week.

Lt. j.g. Shelly Brown tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://bit.ly/1PQErYJ ) that while a positive identification hasn’t been made, shorts on the body found Monday matched those worn by 16-year-old Carlos Perez, who went missing Friday.

Padre Island National Seashore spokesman Patrick Gamman says someone on sea turtle patrol found the body.

The body was found about 25 miles south of the pier where the teen disappeared while playing with friends.
