Plano native named president of Robert Morris University

MOON, Pa. (AP) — Robert Morris University is getting a new president from Virginia.

Trustees have announced Christopher Howard will become the eighth president of the western Pennsylvania school on Feb. 1.

The 46-year-old has served as president of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia since 2009.

Howard will move from a small, single-sex liberal arts college with an enrollment of about 1,000 to Robert Morris and its roughly 5,350 students.

The Plano, Texas, native attended the Air Force Academy as an undergraduate. He earned his MBA from the Harvard Business School and a doctorate in politics from Oxford University in England while on a Rhodes Scholarship.

Howard was awarded a Bronze Star for military service in Afghanistan.
