Lee Graham Reporter Texas Tech University and the University of Houston are among schools named on the newly released CareerBliss Happiest Universities to Work 2013. “Our unique data offers students and faculty a chance to see what factors drive happiness at work within the university system,” says Heidi Golledge, co-founder and CEO of CareerBliss, commenting in a news release. “CareerBliss recognizes those universities that excel in providing a happy work culture,” Golledge said. Employees from universities nationwide submitted independent company reviews evaluating their work culture and what factors impact overall workplace happiness. CareerBliss data found Auburn University tops in providing a happy work environment. The school earned a 4.40 “Bliss Score.” Rounding out the list are Carnegie Mellon University, second place, with a 4.39 score; Texas Tech, third place, 4.37 score; the University of Houston, fourth place, 4.36 score; the University of Wisconsin, fifth place, 4.32 score; Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, Calif., sixth place, 4.30 score; Northeastern University in Boston, seventh place, 4.29 score; Boston University, eighth place, 4.19 score; University of California, San Diego, ninth place, 4.13 score; and Georgia Institute of Technology, 10th place, 4.11 score. CareerBliss data evaluated factors such as one’s relationship with his or her boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities and job control. Each review was given an average score indicating where the company places between one and five. A minimum of 10 reviews per university was required for the data.
