Texas Wesleyan football kickoff party

The 2019 Texas Wesleyan Rams football season is almost upon us. In preparation, the Ram Club, the university’s alumni fundraising club, will host a Football Kickoff Tailgate Party at the new Martin Center Ballroom, 1201 Wesleyan St., in Fort Worth, Aug. 23 from 6-9 p.m.

The come-and-go event will feature a barbecue dinner (while it lasts). There will also be a chance to meet the coaches.

Dress is football casual, and, of course, spirit gear is encouraged.

The Rams host Southwestern University, a NCAA DIII program, in a scrimmage at Farrington Field on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 6 pm. The Pirates went 6-4 last season. The Rams are coming off a 2-8 season, and this will be their third season of play since the program was reinstated following a hiatus of more than 75 years.

The Rams showed much improvement in 2018, including their first on-field victory (they had a forfeit victory in 2017), 36-7 over Texas College at Farrington Field. They later added an exciting 21-20 homecoming win over Lyon College, also at Farrington Field.

Following the scrimmage, fans will have to wait some time to see the Rams play at home again. The team’s first four games are on the road at Kansas Wesleyan, Aug. 31; Houston Baptist, Sept. 7; Ottawa (Arizona), Sept. 21; and at Lyon (Arkansas), Sept. 28.

The team will finally play a home game on Oct. 5 against Southwest Assemblies of God at Farrington Field, a 7 p.m. kickoff. They are then back on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Oct. 12.
