Chesapeake Energy Corp. has named Patrick K. Craine as its chief compliance officer. Craine, a partner with the law firm Bracewell & Giuliani LLP until joining Chesapeake, will report to Jim Webb, Chesapeake’s general counsel; and the audit committee of the company’s board of directors. “Our senior leadership team and board of directors are committed to further enhancing the effectiveness of our regulatory and legal compliance and I look forward to working with Patrick in this important area,” said CEO Doug Lawler, commenting in a news release. At Bracewell & Giuliani, Craine served as a partner in the firm’s white collar defense, internal investigations, and regulatory enforcement practice. He counseled companies, boards, committees, officers, and directors in regulatory and compliance matters. Craine also led several independent investigations for publicly traded companies. Before entering private practice, Craine served as an enforcement attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Craine also was involved in those agencies’ oil and gas task forces. Chesapeake Energy Corp., whose interests include the Barnett Shale in North Texas, develops unconventional natural gas and oil fields nationwide. More information is available at www.chk.com.
