FTS International names first independent director

FTS International Inc. of Fort Worth has appointed Tom Bates to its board of directors as its first independent member.

With 40 years of oil and gas industry experience, Bates has served several executive leadership positions. He previously served as group president at Baker Hughes Inc., CEO at Weatherford-Enterra Inc. and president of the Anadrill division of Schlumberger.

Bates also served as a managing director and senior adviser at Lime Rock Partners, an energy-focused private equity investment firm.

“Adding our first independent director is an important next step in FTSI’s growth plan, and Tom is an ideal person for the job,” said FTSI CEO Greg Lanham in a news release.

“He brings a wealth of operational and technical expertise in the energy industry, and we are proud to welcome him to our team,” Lanham said.

Bates has a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. He serves as an adjunct professor and co-chairman of the advisory board for the Energy MBA Program at the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
