Bates also served as a managing director and senior adviser at Lime Rock Partners, an energy-focused private equity investment firm.

“Adding our first independent director is an important next step in FTSI’s growth plan, and Tom is an ideal person for the job,” said FTSI CEO Greg Lanham in a news release.

“He brings a wealth of operational and technical expertise in the energy industry, and we are proud to welcome him to our team,” Lanham said.

Bates has a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. He serves as an adjunct professor and co-chairman of the advisory board for the Energy MBA Program at the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
