PLANO, Texas (AP) — Nearly 80 homes in the north Dallas suburb of Plano have been evacuated because of a gas leak.

Plano Fire Rescue Capt. Peggy Harrell says a shopping center and nearby neighborhoods have been cleared out and people displaced are being taken to a recreation center. Emergency tents also have been set up.

A resident reported a strong natural gas odor just after daybreak, prompting the evacuations. The leak was reported capped by early Thursday afternoon.

Authorities had said earlier it could be up to eight hours before displaced residents would be allowed to return.

No injuries have been reported.
