Texas chill expected to ease a little

Texas has seen the worst of the latest arctic blast, with temperatures dropping into the teens for the second night in a row in much of the state.

The National Weather Service predicts a slow warming trend Tuesday, with temperatures climbing into the 40s statewide. Far South Texas was due for some cold rain.

AEP Texas reports almost 5,000 customers lost power Monday night in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, while another 3,500 went dark in the Laredo area. Oncor reported about 2,200 customers were without power in the Dallas-Fort Worth area Monday night.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which manages the electric grid that serves most of Texas, has appealed for conservation to avoid overtaxing generating and transmission facilities.
