US Rep. Neugebauer faces challenge in West Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Conservative columnist and surgeon Donald May says he is formally announcing a challenge to West Texas Congressman Randy Neugebauer.

May’s campaign had scheduled public events in Lubbock and Abilene on Thursday to declare May’s challenge for the Republican nomination.

Neugebauer is one of the most conservative members of Congress and a staunch critic of President Barack Obama. However, May says he’ll do a better job working to increase the production of oil, natural gas, water and agriculture.

May maintained a blog for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal called Mr. Conservative with entries titled, “ObamaCare is Marxism” and “Tyrant Obama Now Attempts to Terrorize Seniors and Tourists.”

Neugebauer was recently videotaped confronting a National Park ranger over the government shutdown.

May and Neugebauer will face each other in the March 4 Republican primary.
