A person familiar with the decision says free agent right-hander Andrew Cashner has reached an agreement on a $10 million, one-year deal with the Texas Rangers.
That person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday because the deal was pending a physical and wasn’t finalized and the team had not made an official announcement.
Cashner, a Conroe High School graduate who also played at TCU, finished last season with the Florida Marlins after the San Diego Padres traded him July 29. He was 5-11 with a 5.25 ERA in 28 games combined.
Texas had inquired about Cashner before the non-waiver trade deadline last summer, and had previously been interested in him.
Cashner is a Texas native and 2008 first-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs out of TCU.
