🕐 1 min read

Eduardo Aparecido, a Brazilian cowboy who lives in Decatur, won the Professional Bull Riders Iron Cowboy VIII and earned $138,766 on Saturday night before a crowd of 38,598 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

When the title was at stake in the fourth round, Aparecido clinched it after finishing the round as the only cowboy who made a qualified ride.

Aparecido, 26, turned in a score of 89 in Round 4. The other contestant, Fabiano Vieira, was bucked off.

“Before I came, I knew I needed to ride every bull that I got on,” Aparecido said.

After clinching the title, Aparecido took the lead in the PBR’s 2017 world title race. He has earned 2,015 points during the regular season.

Jess Lockwood dropped to second place after being unceremoniously dumped in the Iron Cowboy’s opening round. He has 1,678 points.

Lockwood, a 19-year-old Montana cowboy, entered the Iron Cowboy ranked No. 1 in the PBR 2017 world standings. But he failed to earn title race points this weekend after being bucked off in Round 1. He was bucked off in 3.62 seconds.

In Round 1, 15 riders made a qualified ride. Aparecido turned in an 85.

Mason Lowe won Round 2 with a 90.75 on a bull named Smooth Operator. Aparecido finished second with a 90.50 and Fabiano Vieira came in third with an 86.5.

In Round 3, only two riders made a qualified ride. They were Aparecido who won the round with an 88.75 and Vieira who was second with an 88.50.

In Round 4, Vieira, who was first to ride, was bucked off in 1.56 seconds. After that, Aparecido turned in the 89 on a bull named Catfish John and clinched the title.
