With 1,600 full-time employees, the University of North Texas Health Science Center is a busy environment for workers who perform a variety of functions – from patient care to academics to research. UNT Health Science Center is one of the nation’s premier graduate academic medical centers, with five schools that specialize in patient-centered education, research and health care, so keeping employees motivated and positive is a key component of Fort Worth’s overall economic wellbeing.
Despite its size and scope, the UNT Health Science Center recently began five new initiatives for employees: rewards and recognition; empowering vendor selection; leadership programs, fellowships and coaching. Employee evaluations are being restructured to be more realistic. For employees, efforts to improve the workplace have been both large and small. One large effort has been raising the profile of the annual fundraiser, creating more awareness of the organization in the community. But there have been smaller efforts too, such as creating a community garden where employees can have a plot of land in which to plant a garden and donate the harvests to a food bank.
As an organization that works to improve the overall health of the North Texas community, employees at the UNT Health Science Center benefit from fitness programs as well as an on-site workout facility.
