Lena Pope’s mission is to help create hope, happiness, and success for children and families. To accomplish this, Lena Pope focuses on counseling and education. Lena Pope provides mental health, substance abuse treatment, and family support services both in an office setting and within a family’s home or a child’s school.

Lena Pope also operates Chapel Hill Academy, an open-enrollment public charter school for more than 500 elementary students in South Fort Worth. Lena Pope also has an Early Learning Center that provides early learning opportunities for 114 children ages six weeks to five years.

To carry out its mission, Lena Pope wants to keep its clients as well as its employees engaged. One way is by continuing to offer innovate programs. For instance, last year, to help students learn to properly adapt to stress or adversity, Lena Pope’s Chapel Hill Academy (CHA) implemented a new program school year. Social Emotional Learning (SEL), an evidence-based Second Step model, has been designed to help children increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

The new program was implemented after listening to Lena Pope’s teachers. “The most common concern I hear from teachers is not about academics,” said Jennifer Carpenter, a licensed clinical social worker and the coordinator of Student and Family Services at CHA. “It’s about how to help students who are angry, sad, or worried learn to manage these feelings, so that they can be successful.”

Lena Pope CEO Todd Landry said the success of the organization’s mission is directly related to its employees.

“I strongly believe it is our remarkable staff who make achieving our mission possible,” he said. “Their day in and day out dedication is inspirational. It is with the trust and support of the community and board leadership that we have been able to continue the 85 year tradition of helping children and families.”
