Ex-CFL quarterback Ledbetter dies in Texas, ruled suicide

ALEDO, Texas (AP) — Former CFL quarterback Cody Ledbetter has been found dead in Texas.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a suicide. Ledbetter was 42.

Investigators say Ledbetter, who lived in Joshua, was found dead Saturday in a shed in Aledo. The cause of death was hanging.

Ledbetter was a football and track star at Stephenville High School. He was a standout quarterback at New Mexico State, then joined the CFL and played for Edmonton and Hamilton.

Ledbetter in 2005 pleaded guilty to having an improper relationship with a female student at Alvarado High School, where he was an assistant coach. He was put on probation, but in 2011 was sentenced to prison in Texas for probation violation. Ledbetter acknowledged drinking alcohol and missing probation appointments.
