HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) – Masters champion Jordan Spieth fixed his game in a hurry. He shot a 9-under-par 62 Friday to get back in contention at the RBC Heritage.
He had opened with a 3-over 74 in the first round but recovered with the second-lowest round ever at Harbour Town Golf Links. He was one shy of the record 61 by David Frost in 1994.
Spieth’s nine-birdie, no-bogey performance moved him from tied for 94th and outside the cut line this morning to tied for fifth and three shots behind leader Matt Kuchar. More than half the field was still on the course.
Spieth said he retooled his game at practice Friday. He came to Sea Pines Resort after his extraordinary week at Augusta National and a two-day celebratory tour in New York.
