Horse named Fort Worth wins at Saratoga

A horse named Fort Worth won the eighth race on Sunday, Aug. 2 at Saratoga. What’s the connection? The jockey was Irad Oritz Jr., the trainer Todd A. Pletcher. The owner: Bass Racing LLC. That’s probably the answer to the question of the horse’s name.

Fort Worth, a 4-year-old chestnut colt sired by City Zip, made the third start of his career and the first since April 2019 in the six-furlong, $64,000 allowance race for New York breds. His winning time was 1:09.71.

The 8-5 morning line favorite went off at odds of slightly more than 6-5 in the nine-horse field, paying $4.60 for a $2 win bet. Fort Worth now has a record of two wins and one third-place finish.
