Jazz on the Trinity is back in Fort Worth

It took a little longer than originally planned, but the music festival is once again coming to Panther Island Pavilion on Saturday, May 31. Promoters are expecting upwards of 5,000 people to attend the event in its first appearance back in Funkytown since June of 2017.

“The follow-up was originally scheduled for 2018 but had to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond the promoter’s control. This year’s event will be the second of what is planned for many to come,” said La’Wonda Peoples of Eventfully Yours Special Event Planning & Management, working with concert promoters Poetic Visions Live.

Jazz on the Trinity will feature the return of Grammy award-winning smooth jazz artist Lalah Hathaway as the headliner. Joining her will be the award-winning trumpeter Rick Braun, R&B crooner Kevin Ross and the chart-topping contemporary jazz vocalist Lindsey Webster, who made history by becoming the first vocalist since Sade to have a No. 1 single on the smooth jazz chart.

Popular local artists on the lineup include Julliard trained violinist Richmond Punch and the Fort Worth party band Latin Express.

In addition to the artists, to enhance the festival experience, the event will include a variety of food and retail vendors, a cigar lounge and an adult beverage tasting lounge.

“Fort Worth is not known for cultural events that speak to ethnic minority groups. Though largely targeting the African American jazz enthusiast, it (the festival) is open to all music lovers of great live music,” Peoples said. “In addition to including gender diversity, the promoter has sought to include Fort Worth’s own local artist Latin Express to add a Latin-fused jazz element.”

Peoples noted the last event in 2017 included attendees who came in from California, Philadelphia and New Jersey as well as the nearby states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi to experience Fort Worth’s hospitality.

“We are honored to have the support of several of Fort Worth’s community leaders who are excited to have this caliber of talent coming in to the city in an outdoor festival event that will showcase the small businesses that will sell their products as vendors,” she said.

Gates to the festival will open at 3 p.m. and the shows will start at 5 p.m., Peoples said, with the last act ending around 10 p.m.

Attendees will have the choice of reserved seats or can choose to bring a lawn chair for the general admission seating area. Tickets are on sale now and range in price from $125 for general admission to $250 for VIP. Sponsorships are available at various levels.
