Memorial for Dan Jenkins set for Friday

Legendary Fort Worth journalist Dan Jenkins was honored Tuesday morning during the dedication ceremony for the Dan Jenkins Press Box, which overlooks TCU's football feild in Amon Carter Stadium. Jenkins, 87, is a TCU alumni (1953).

Jenkins' sportswriting career spans seven decades during which he wrote for the Fort Worth Press, Dallas Times Herald, Sports Illustratedand Golf Digest. He has also written 23 books. Three of his best-selling novels – Semi-Tough,Dead Solid Perfect and Baja Oklahoma – were made into movies.

Jenkins was a three-year TCU golf letterman and captain (1950-52). Throughout his writing career, Jenkins has covered a record 230 major championships including 67 Masters in a row, his first in 1951 for the Fort Worth Presswhen Ben Hogan won his first green jacket. Jenkins remains active as a senior writer forGolf Digest.

A public memorial service for Fort Worth author Dan Jenkins has been set for Friday.

The service will be at 11 a.m. at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth.

Jenkins, 90, died Thursday March 7, 2019, at a Fort Worth hospital surrounded by his family.

Jenkins was a graduate of Paschal High School and Texas Christian University who was an author of 23 bestselling books, including Semi-Tough, Life Its Ownself and Baja Oklahoma.

He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, and honored with dozens of lifetime achievement awards, including the Red Smith Award for outstanding contribution to journalism, and the Ring Lardner Award.

Jenkins is survived by his wife of 59 years, June Burrage Jenkins; children, Marty, Sally and Danny; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
