New sports anchor for CBS 11

Look for a new sports anchor on CBS 11 starting Tuesday, March 31.

Keith Russell will join CBS 11 as sports anchor coming from WXTF-TV Philadelphia.

“Keith has a terrific ability to bring viewers more than just the x’s and o’s,” said CBS 11 Vice President of News Mike Garber. “His passion for local sports always shines through, whether he’s covering a game, interviewing an athlete or anchoring a sportscast.”

Russell was most recently the host of WXTF-TV Philadelphia’s Eagles pre- and post-game shows and was the station’s weekend sports anchor. Prior to that, he was a sports anchor for ESPN, CNN, WPVI (Philadelphia), WJAR (Providence, R.I.), WTVJ (Jackson, Miss.) and WHLT (Hattiesburg, Miss.). He also worked as a news anchor at WRC in Washington, D.C.

“Dallas-Fort Worth is a terrific local sports market,” Russell said, “and I look forward to bringing fans even closer to the teams, athletes, and proud sports traditions that mean so much to them.”

Russell is a graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore. He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Babe Laufenberg left CBS 11 in January, but will remain a broadcaster for the Dallas Cowboys games.
