Just in time for National Adoption Weekend, Portacool LLC has donated two new Portacool Cyclone 160 evaporative coolers to the Chuck Silcox Animal Care and Control Center (ACCC) in Fort Worth.
Center, Texas-based Portacool donated the two evaporative coolers to assist the city’s effort to maintain a safe and healthy shelter environment for the more than 500 dogs housed there each week.
The Cyclone 160 evaporative coolers, which cool more than 2,100 square feet each, will be used in the dog runs and outdoor covered kennel area that quickly heats up in the summertime. Providing cooling in these outdoor areas is vital given that as Texas temperatures rise over 85°F, the dogs become quickly susceptible to the risk of heat stress. Portacool are the coolers seen on the sidelines at NFL and college games during football season to keep players cool in the heat.
“We commend the efforts of the Fort Worth ACCC team to create an environment that fosters healthy, adoptable animals waiting to find new homes,” said Misty Wilburn, marketing manager for Portacool. “In the warm months, keeping dogs cool can be a challenge when they have to be outside. We are thrilled to help maintain a cool space for the animals that allows for outdoor time without inducing heat stress.”
The shelter takes in more than 17,000 unwanted and stray dogs and cats annually. According to the city, the facility at 4900 Martin Street is adding more than 4,800 square feet to the existing facility in order to assess and treat these animals in preparation for adoption. Renovation includes an additional 14 large outdoor holding runs where the Portacool evaporative coolers will be utilized.
