Rahr & Sons partners with charity: water to build wells in developing world

World Water

Water is a key component in beer, but an even more key component in life – especially in the developing world.

Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. knows about beer, and beer, after all, is 95 percent water, and about charity, a cornerstone of its business since its 2004 opening. The non-profit charity: water knows how to provide clean and safe drinking water, and has built more than 20,000 wells in 24 countries, supplying 6.3 million people.

And the two are teaming up to their mutual benefit. Every Wednesday beginning March 29, Rahr & Sons will donate $1 from every mid-week tasting admission to the nonprofit organization; for every $10,000 raised, charity: water will be able to build a well to support the needs of hundreds of people.

To launch its new charitable partnership, Rahr & Sons will host an event on World Water Day, March 22 from 5-8 p.m. With a goal to raise $10,000 in its first week, Rahr & Sons will donate $5 from each $10 ticket sale, as well as 100 percent of funds raised from a silent auction featuring numerous prizes from local businesses. All event attendees will receive three beer tastings and a commemorative pint glass and enjoy live music from electronic band Ishi. Those unable to attend are welcomed to donate directly via my.charitywater.org/rahr-brewing/rahr-sons-charity-water-well-project.

Rahr & Sons has made charitable giving a cornerstone of its business since opening in 2004.

“Charity: water is an important organization that has a long-term outlook to make sure water is plentiful for years to come in areas that need it most,” Craig Mycoskie, Rahr & Sons’ vice president of operations, said in a news release. “Rahr & Sons is excited to expand our impact and help bring life’s most basic need to those who desperately need it.”

In the past 13 years, owners Fritz & Erin Rahr and their team have given more than 125 nonprofits exposure and fundraising opportunities through their charity of the week initiative at the brewery every Saturday; raised more than $150,000 for multiple local nonprofits through the annual Oktoberfest 5K; and donated a percentage of sales from The Fort Worth beer to the USS Fort Worth Support Committee, which provides moral support and appreciation for the city’s namesake ship’s crew and families.
