NEW YORK (AP) – The Texas Rangers have put first baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks on the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Jake Smolinski from Triple-A Round Rock.
Texas manager Jeff Banister said he expected Smolinski would be available Friday night against the Yankees.
Blanks’ move was retroactive to Wednesday. He had a procedure Friday in New York for a cyst near his tailbone. He was hitting .322 with three homers and six RBIs in 15 games since being promoted from Triple-A.
Smolinski was batting .480 with two homers and five RBIs in seven games with Round Rock. He was sent to the minors after hitting .140 with one homer and five RBIs in seven games for Texas.
