Righty Phil Klein made the Rangers’ opening-day roster

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Right-hander Phil Klein made the Texas Rangers’ opening-day roster Sunday as a long reliever.

Righty A.J. Griffin, a non-roster player in camp, was sent to Triple-A Round Rock but is a strong candidate to start for the Rangers at the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

Seattle visits Texas in the season opener Monday.

As expected, right-hander Yu Darvish (elbow surgery), outfielder Josh Hamilton (knee surgery) and catcher Chris Gimenez (left leg infection) will start the season on the 15-day disabled list. Darvish and Hamilton are unlikely to return before May.
