Now in its fourth year of partnering with the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, Careity is scoring big with over 150 cancer survivors in the area.
The “Stock Show Goes Pink” day is coming January 28, when Careity receives half the proceeds from all stock show admission and rodeo tickets (see link below).
Careity’s presence includes providing a free lunch for over 150 cancer survivors on that day, say Co-Founders Beverly Branch and Lyn Walsh. The purpose is not to provide a support group, but rather a time for cancer survivors to enjoy and relax.
Some attendees are longtime survivors while others are new into their journey. This luncheon helps them leave their anxieties, enjoy meeting people and concentrate on healing.
The luncheon always starts with Branch performing the Lord’s Prayer a cappella.
This year, ventriloquist and former Miss Texas Gloria Gilbert-Barron is taking the stage with special guest star Vera May Kunkel. Gloria has opened shows and appeared with such greats as Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, LeAnn Rimes, Neal McCoy, Charlie Pride, Randy Travis and Willie Nelson. Her most memorable performances were with the legendary Bob Hope.
As a Careity event, the luncheon is always quite entertaining and downright fun for all.
Careity exists to provide direct care that saves lives, gives hope, eases pain, and allows cancer patients and families to focus on healing.
Careity is early detection and beyond the diagnosis.
