WHAT’S AT STAKE

The Horned Frogs are trying to keep pace with a bevy of one-loss teams that are waiting for next week’s debut of the rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee. The Red Raiders are trying to improve to 3-0 against TCU since the former Southwest Conference foes were reunited in the Big 12 when TCU joined in 2012.

KEY MATCHUP

TCU QB Trevone Boykin vs. young Texas Tech secondary. Boykin, fourth nationally in total offense at 370 yards per game, threw for a career-high 410 yards in a 42-9 rout of Oklahoma State. Freshman cornerbacks Tevin Madison and Nigel Bethel II are seeing plenty of playing time for Texas Tech, along with sophomore Justis Nelson.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Texas Tech: RB DeAndre Washington is on a two-game streak of setting a career high in yards rushing. He had 138 in a loss to West Virginia two weeks ago and 164 in last week’s 34-21 win over Kansas. That was the most yards rushing for pass-happy Texas Tech since Taurean Henderson had 169 against Kansas in 2004.

TCU: WR Josh Doctson missed a school record by a yard when he finished with 225 yards receiving, including touchdowns of 77 and 84 yards, against Oklahoma State. He’s the only player in TCU history to score a touchdown for and against the Horned Frogs. The Wyoming transfer had a 7-yard scoring grab in Laramie, Wyoming, in 2011.
