Fans will have no trouble making the connection between the Fort Worth Vaqueros soccer team and its home city once they get a look at the team logo unveiled March 20. Following a fan vote, the Vaqueros – who also allowed fans to choose the team’s name – selected a blue and yellow badge-style logo that includes longhorns, a cowboy hat and a soccer ball.

Luna Design, the San Antonio firm that designed the Vaqueros’ web site, designed the winning logo chosen in a vote of 800 fans.

A total of 84 would-be logos were submitted to the team, which narrowed the field to four finalists for voting that was conducted online, through social media and in person. The other three entries were designed by fans, said Tobias Xavier Lopez, the Vaqueros’ business operations director.

“It is no coincidence that the logo traditionally resides on a soccer jersey just above a player’s heart,” Lopez said. “Players kiss the badge after scoring a logo because the crest is a physical representation of the club’s soul. The Fort Worth community decided what logo represents its character and what image the Vaqueros will wear above their hearts and onto the field.”

The Vaqueros begin play in the minor league National Premier Soccer League May 9 with a game against the Tulsa Athletics at Fort Worth’s LaGrave Field.
