WFAA announced Nov. 19 that Chris Lawrence, currently with NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C., will join the station in January, co-anchoring the station’s evening newscast with Cynthia Izaguirre. He will replace longtime WFAA anchor John McCaa, who announced his retirement earlier this year. McCaa will be leaving the station March 1.
According to WFAA, Lawrence joined WRC, where he both anchors and reports, in January 2014, following a decade at CNN.
“We are pleased to welcome Chris and his family to WFAA and North Texas,” said Brad Ramsey, WFAA president and general manager, in a statement. “Chris’ resume speaks for itself, as he has covered some of the most impactful stories of our time, but we are most excited about his ability to connect with the local audience and his interest in helping WFAA continue to lead the way on innovation.”
