STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Wisdom Gym Turf Room at Tarleton State was the site of the Propel Career Fair and Sport Business Panel on Tuesday. The event featured sales and marketing representatives from Dallas-Fort Worth area professional sports organizations participating in a panel discussion, networking opportunities and a career fair geared toward kinesiology students. “For many of our sport management majors, opportunities like this typically require travel to larger markets such as Arlington or Frisco,” said event organizer Dr. Rachel Elms, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sports Management at Tarleton State. “Hosting an experience of this caliber on our own campus, quite literally on our home turf, was both meaningful and deeply rewarding.
“Students had the opportunity to engage not only with our five distinguished panelists, but also with more than 30 external organizations, including physical therapy clinics, fitness centers, rehabilitation facilities, ESPN, chiropractic programs, and more.”
Panelists Nick Richardson, vice president of ticket sales for the Texas Rangers; Hunter Bernays, Dallas Cowboys suite manager/rentals; Grayson Gardiner, hospitality sales and services marketing coordinator for the PGA; Misca Perez, Dallas Mavericks premium service account manager; and Ryan Samford, inside sales associate for the Houston Rockets, drew an estimated 200 attendees. One student surveyed at the end of the event said the business panel and career fair provided clarity on career choices, saying: “Hearing directly from professionals in the industry was incredibly valuable. It gave me a much clearer picture of what day-to-day life in this field actually looks like.”
