As First Command Financial Services wraps up its annual monthlong Spirit of Giving charitable effort, the Fort Worth-based company has placed a special focus on supporting Presbyterian Night Shelter’s Patriot House, a transitional facility for unhoused veterans.
First Command volunteers recently constructed a pergola at Patriot House, creating a much-needed outdoor space for its residents.
“First Command is proud to support the Presbyterian Night Shelter,” said First Command President/CEO Mark Steffe. “They do so much work for the unhoused veterans in our community. Working with the Presbyterian Night Shelter’s Patriot House allows us to live out our core values of courage, love and effectiveness.”
The shelter’s CEO, Toby Owen, praised First Command’s hands-on involvement and commitment as Major Sponsors for the shelter’s Day of Service, where employees provided both resources and labor to make a difference for veterans in need.
“First Command has been a terrific partner with Presbyterian Night Shelter,” he said. “Not only are they supporting our Day of Service as Major Sponsors, but we are also benefiting from the dedication of their hardworking volunteers, who are providing hands-on sweat equity to benefit our veterans at Patriot House who are experiencing homelessness. We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to continuing it for years to come.”
This year, First Command’s Spirit of Giving campaign exceeded its fundraising goal, collecting more than $162,000 to benefit the Presbyterian Night Shelter, First Command’s Educational Foundation, and United Way of Tarrant County. Funds raised will enhance local programs supporting veterans and military families, including financial education, scholarships, and community services for veterans.
Additionally, the company organizes year-round drives for clothing, blankets, and medicine to meet the shelter’s needs. During the past 30 years, the First Command family has raised more than $1 million and contributed thousands of volunteer hours.
Beyond these local efforts, First Command donates more than 7% of its profit to military relief organizations, First Command’s Educational Foundation, military academies and organizations that help veterans and military spouses find employment, like Hiring Our Heroes and Skillbridge.
