(Fort Worth, Texas) – The James L. West Center for Dementia Care will host almost 50 Fellows in the LeadingAge Larry Minnix Leadership Academy on Wednesday.
The Academy is a yearlong leadership development program for professionals in the aging services industry, with attendees from throughout the United States. The Leadership Academy’s visit to Fort Worth will be its third gathering of the 2025 program.
Twice during the program year, the Academy Fellows visit innovative LeadingAge members from across the country and participate in intimate conversations with industry leaders. Selected site visits are designed to expose Fellows to innovative organizations across the aging services continuum and the visionary leaders who enable transformation. Hearing about these organizations and the contributions of staff (at all levels) responsible for creating unique care environments and programming allows Fellows to gain a deeper understanding of the aging services field while witnessing the traits of impactful leaders.
“We are honored to have been selected to share how our team approaches both on-site caregiving and our robust free caregiver education program,” says Cheryl Harding, Ph.D., President and CEO of James L. West Center for Dementia Care. “LeadingAge is the voice of the not-for-profit caregiving industry, so this selection validates our approach and commitment to caregiving.”
On June 1, Dr. Harding began her two-year term as chairman of LeadingAge Texas, the state affiliate of LeadingAge.
“We greatly appreciate the integral role that The West Center plays in the lives of so many older adults and their families. We are so grateful that Dr. Harding, Jamie Cobb Tinsley, and their team are willing to host our Leadership Academy group and share their approaches to care and improving quality of life for elders. I have no doubt that our fellows will leave inspired by what they see and hear during our visit to James L. West. They are outstanding members who contribute enormously to our profession,” says BreAna Moss Matthews, Manager of Education and Leadership Programs for LeadingAge.
The three-day gathering features leadership-focused discussions on Tuesday, on-site visits on Wednesday, and additional leadership-focused talks on Thursday. Wednesday’s site visits will begin at The West Center in Fort Worth and move to the Juliette Fowler Communities, a Dallas retirement home, for the afternoon.
