Monday, June 30, will be busy for the James L. West Center for Dementia Care. The West Center launches its new Home Care service, which provides West Center-trained caregivers as home caregivers. An 11:30 a.m. luncheon and a 6:00 p.m. reception will introduce the concept of Neurobics.
Titled “Neurobics – Memory & Brain Adventures: How to Cross Train Your Brain,” the 90-minute interactive experience will teach attendees how to energize the mind and strengthen the brain.
“Neurobics provides the mental exercises that create new neural pathways in the brain in nontraditional ways,” says Cheryl Harding, Ph.D., and President/CEO of The West Center. She adds, “Our brain craves novelty, variety, and challenges that help stimulate new neural pathways.”
Neurobics has been shown to maintain mental agility, improve attention span, enhance memory retention, and stimulate the brain’s creative resources.
The West Center is recognized as a center of excellence and a leader in the fields of dementia care and caregiver training. The Center recently welcomed a cohort of dementia healthcare leaders from across the United States to experience the James L. West immersion in training and quality care.
The personalized, professional Home Services line has been designed to bring peace of mind to families facing dementia. The same educators who trained the West Center’s residential and senior day programs are providing the training for the Home Services team. The training offers a comprehensive range of dementia support for all stages.
“There’s no need for any family caregiver trying to navigate this journey alone,” says Jaime Cobb Tinsley, Vice President of Caregiver and Community Education. She adds, “We train our Home Care team with the same curriculum we use to train caregivers throughout the nation.”
She continues, “One of the most important services we offer is companion care. The person with dementia needs to have someone to share friendly conversations with and engage with. Our program also provides personal care, specialized care, and couples care.”
The West Center’s Home Care program offers flexible scheduling and exceptional training, developing dementia care experts who focus on the safety, dignity, and quality of life of individuals with dementia.
There is a core belief at The West Center: Instead of looking at someone with dementia as a problem to be solved, we see that person as someone to be loved. For details about the Home Care program, please visit www.JamesLWest.org/HomeCare.
