FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Leah M. King will seek another term on the Tarrant Regional Water
District (TRWD) Board of Directors. First elected in 2017, Leah served as the first female
President of the Board during the past term. In making her announcement, Leah cited the
Board’s work in improving local quality of life, strengthening local flood control measures,
and securing a long-term and sustainable water supply for Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and
the surrounding region.
“I am proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we still have work to do,” said King. “Local
families rely on our ability to deliver on the Board’s mission of improving local flood control
measures and securing a long-term, sustainable water supply for the region. I believe we
have done a good job planning for the future, and I am excited to build on our momentum.”
Leah cited the Board’s accomplishments during her tenure including being the first agency
in the state to be awarded six Transparency Stars by the Texas Comptroller of Public
Accounts. Created in March 2016, the Transparency Stars program recognizes cities,
counties, school districts and special purpose districts making important strides toward
greater government transparency. Organizations that receive these awards exemplify the
highest standard of financial transparency and governmental accountability in the State of
Texas. Also, during Leah’s tenure, the Board has adopted clear Board Governance Policies,
strengthened Board Employee Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics and enhanced the
Board Public Information Policy.
King also cited the Board’s e]orts for maintaining a competitive tax rate, securing more than
$420 million dollars toward the Central City Flood Control project and continuing to foster
strong partnerships, such as the transformative IPL (Integrated Pipeline Project) with Dallas
Water Utilities. This groundbreaking project will support delivery of roughly 350 million
gallons of water per day through a system that includes 150 miles of pipeline connected
through a series of pump stations that will ultimately provide vital water resources to millions
of residents across North Texas.

Because of her strong leadership and record of delivering results at TRWD, Leah has been
endorsed for re-election by local leaders including Mayor Mattie Parker and Former Mayors
Betsy Price, Kenneth Barr, and Mike Moncrief.
Leah serves as President of the JPS Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to
supporting the JPS Health Network as a regional and national leader in providing
transformational healthcare services. As the county’s essential hospital, JPS provides
healthcare to all Tarrant County residents, regardless of their ability to pay. In her role, Leah
is responsible for leadership and strategic fundraising vision development of the
organization as well as fiscal oversight, growing financial support, developing processes and
new initiatives, and facilitating cross-departmental and community collaboration.
In addition to her leadership position with the JPS Foundation, Leah is also a board member
at the Fort Worth Club and T3 (Tarrant To & Through) and serves on the President’s Advisory
Council for Texas Wesleyan University. Leah currently resides in Fort Worth with her
husband, Barry.
