Local Family to Participate in Honoring Donors for Life-Restoring Gifts
LifeGift’s 2nd Chance Run (5K/1mile walk or run) is being held on Saturday, October 18th, 7:00 a.m. in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. LifeGift invites you to spend a morning celebrating the gift of life as the organization honors organ, eye and tissue donors in 109 Texas counties in North, Southeast and West Texas. The 2nd Chance Run is a timed event; you can run or walk 1 mile or 3.1 miles (5k) at the Stockyards or participate virtually! For more information and to register, please click here.
All registered participants in the 2nd Chance Run will receive a custom event t-shirt, medal, race bib and a timing chip (for 5k participants only), along with a race swag bag and entry to our race village. LifeGift will promote the event on social media, sharing photos and messages of support for donor families, transplant recipients and other members of our community. Additionally, the largest family and hospital teams will be awarded the Largest Team trophy!
Some exciting things in store this year – stilt walkers, face painting, an interactive photo booth, a food truck and so much more. This is a pet-friendly event, so dogs on a leash can join in the fun!
The Fort Worth 2nd Chance Run is being generously sponsored by Global Transplant Solutions, Enterprise, King & Spalding, Organ Recovery Systems, AIRSPACE, Axogen, Baylor Scott & White Health, Bridge to Life, Cook Children’s, ENG Organ Recovery, LifeNet Health, Medical City Fort Worth, SALLOP, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, Pediatrix Neonatology of Texas, Solvita, Paragonix, Barbara Cares, Carter BloodCare, Donate Life Texas, Gathering Hope, Hispanic Wellness Coalition, Houston Running Company, John Peter Smith Hospital Community Outreach and Ronald McDonald House.

At just 12 years old, Collyns Hutson has endured a remarkable medical journey. What began as a routine visit to the school nurse in September 2023 quickly led to a diagnosis of two rare conditions—Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia and hepatopulmonary syndrome. After receiving a liver transplant in May 2024, a severe medication reaction caused her lungs to fail, and she was placed on the transplant list once again. Just two months later, on July 17, Collyns received the gift of new lungs—and a second chance at life.
Since her transplant, Collyns’ life has transformed. She’s no longer tethered to oxygen or confined to a wheelchair. She’s walking, smiling and embracing childhood again. “Every day is a gift,” Amanda adds. “We’re so grateful to the families who made this possible. Collyns is passionate about organ donation now. She wants to help others, just like someone helped her.” Collyns is excited about participating in LifeGift’s upcoming Fort Worth 2nd Chance Run!
“The Fort Worth 2nd Chance Run has symbolized hope for men, women and children who are waiting for life-saving organ, eye and tissue transplants in Fort Worth,” says Kevin Myer, LifeGift president and CEO. “Each year, we’ve seen many new participants joining our 2nd Chance Run, demonstrating the community’s strong commitment and devotion to raise awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation registration.”
Carter BloodCare will have a mobile unit onsite for blood donation. All blood donors will receive an exclusive T-shirt as a thank you! To learn more and to schedule your appointment in advance, please click here.
