Tarrant Area Food Bank West (TAFB West) and Weatherford ISD will host a ribbon-cutting
ceremony to celebrate the opening of the RooMarket, a new Ready to Learn™ in-school market
at Ikard Elementary. The RooMarket will provide students and families with consistent access to
fresh, nutritious food in a trusted and familiar school environment.
The event is part of TAFB’s Ready to Learn™ initiative, which expands access to nutritious food
and youth-focused nutrition education throughout the region. By bringing food directly into
schools, the initiative helps ensure students have what they need to thrive, beginning with the
most important school supply: food. Ready to Learn™ provides critical support to families
experiencing food insecurity.
WHO: A partnership between Tarrant Area Food Bank West and Weatherford ISD to help alleviate
childhood hunger and improve student well-being through convenient, school-based access to
nutritious food.
WHEN: Monday, April 21, 2025, 8:00 AM. Ribbon-cutting ceremony with representatives from
Weatherford ISD, TAFB West, and other members of the community.
WHERE: Ikard Elementary School, 100 Ikard Lane, Weatherford, TX 76086
WHY: The Ready to Learn™ Initiative, launched in 2021 by Tarrant Area Food Bank, alleviates
childhood hunger by addressing the critical connection between nutrition and education. Across
TAFB’s 13-county service area, where 1 in 4 children faces food insecurity, Ready to Learn™
expands access to nutritious food, delivers youth nutrition education, and provides essential
resources to help students thrive.
This partnership with Weatherford ISD ensures that families have a convenient and reliable
source of healthy food, supporting students’ academic success and well-being. Through
initiatives like in-school markets, Ready to Learn™ exemplifies TAFB’s commitment to creating
a healthier, hunger-free future for neighbors facing food insecurity.
