Amy Witherite grew up in Fort Worth as the daughter of a teacher. She understands and has a heart for those who are economically challenged and has used her success to fill the gaps for those in need.
Among those efforts is an annual turkey giveaway to help brighten the Thanksgiving holidays, sponsored by the Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck. This year’s event will take place on Friday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Fiesta Mart, 4245 E. Berry St. in Fort Worth.
Two thousand turkeys will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is free and open to the community and registration is not required.
The 2,000 recipients will also receive a $50 Fiesta Mart gift card to assist with purchasing additional items to complete their meals.
Additionally, DeDe in the Morning and Cat Daddy of K104 FM will be on hand to entertain during the event.
“The urgency to support those in our city of Fort Worth who cannot meet their daily food requirements is undeniable as the numbers don’t lie,” Witherite said. “We’ve doubled the number of families and the amount of food and groceries we’re offering this year to address this need and provide well-rounded, well-balanced meals for Thanksgiving.”
According to the latest Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study, Texas leads the nation in food insecurity with 16.4%, or five million individuals, facing hunger – a significant increase from 13.7% in 2021. The North Texas Food Bank’s service area, specifically, ranks as the nation’s fourth-largest area of food insecurity with approximately 777,690, or 1 in 8 people, facing food insecurity daily.
Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck have provided meals to thousands of North Texas families during Thanksgiving for the past 15 years.
“We’re grateful for each of our partners who help us bring these giveaways to life and meet the needs of our community.”
