7 protesters arrested after blocking Dallas road

DALLAS (AP) – Seven people were arrested Tuesday night for blocking part of a Dallas highway to protest a Missouri grand jury’s decision to not bring criminal charges against the white police officer who fatally shot an 18-year-old black man in Ferguson, Missouri.

A Dallas police statement said protests that began Tuesday and ended early Wednesday were mainly peaceful. Interstate 35 in downtown Dallas was briefly closed in both directions when some demonstrators walked on the highway.

Police said seven people who refused to leave were charged with misdemeanor obstructing a highway or other passageway.

Violent demonstrations in Ferguson and mostly peaceful protests elsewhere in the country began Nov. 24 after prosecutors announced that a grand jury in St. Louis County did not indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the August shooting death of Michael Brown.
