Adoption fees waived for Thanksgiving weekend in Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Animal Shelter received a unique opportunity from the Best Friends Animal Society and Zappos.com over this Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend allowing the shelter to waive all pet adoption fees.

Zappos.com and Best Friends Animal Society have teamed up to sponsor the cost of all the City of Fort Worth Animal Shelter pet adoptions throughout the four-day weekend.

The adoption locations participating include the City of Fort Worth Animal Shelter and its PetSmart adoption locations – PetSmart Alliance and PetSmart Hulen during the national Home for the Pawlidayz event from Nov. 25 through 28.

As with many of the larger animal shelters across the Metroplex, the Fort Worth Animal Shelter has been operating at capacity these past months. Though adoptions and rescues continue to increase at the Fort Worth Animal Shelter, it’s difficult to stay ahead of the stray and homeless pets coming into the shelter each and every day. In Fort Worth alone, more than 17,000 pets on average enter the shelter each year.

Sadly, more than 90 percent of the animals that end up at the City’s animal shelter are stray animals that have been abandoned by their owner or are second or even third generation animals that have been born on the streets as a result of irresponsible pet owners.
