AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors have prepared their case to present to the highest Texas criminal court in support of reinstating the convictions of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
Attorneys for DeLay, who once held the No. 2 job in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Travis County District Attorney’s Office are to make oral arguments Wednesday in Austin before the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. DeLay is expected to attend.
DeLay was convicted in 2010 of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering for participating in a scheme to influence Texas elections.
But a lower appeals court ruled last year that prosecutors failed to prove their case and vacated DeLay’s convictions.
DeLay had been sentenced to three years in prison, but the punishment was put on hold pending appeal.
