NEW BOSTON, Texas (AP) — An Arkansas man with at least five prior convictions for drunken driving has been indicted on two counts of murder following a deadly Texas wreck that occurred as he was allegedly driving while under the influence.
A grand jury in Bowie County, Texas, recently indicted 67-year-old Isiah Williams of Ashdown, Arkansas, for his role in a February wreck on Interstate 30.
Authorities say Williams was the driver of a pickup that veered off the interstate and struck a tree, killing two passengers. An arrest affidavit says his blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit.
The Texarkana Gazette reports that a person can be charged with murder if a death results while a second felony offense is being committed, which in the case of Williams involved felony DWI.
Jail records don’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
