Arlington police return fire, fatally shoot fleeing gunman

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Police in North Texas have fatally shot a fleeing suspect after investigators say he opened fire and wounded an officer following a traffic stop.

Arlington police say the suspect died early Saturday. Police spokesman Lt. Chris Cook says the wounded officer, whose name wasn’t released, remains hospitalized and was expected to recover.

Police say an officer made a traffic stop Friday night and called for backup. The female driver got out, but one of three male passengers began to run.

Two other Arlington officers arrived. Authorities say the original officer and a backup chased 20-year-old Treshun Miller, who police say pulled a gun and shot the backup officer. The original officer then shot Miller.
