Bodies found in burning car were dead Fort Worth suspect’s children

GAINESVILLE, Texas (AP) — Investigators now say the bodies found in a burning car on a remote North Texas road were the children of a man later found dead nearby.

Cooke County Sheriff Terry Gilbert said Tuesday that the bodies found in the back seat of a burning car Sunday night were those of 4-year-old Aijit Singh Birring and his 3-year-old sister, Mehar Kaur Birring. Their father, 37-year-old Mandeep Singh of Fort Worth, was found nearby Monday. Gilbert said Tuesday that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The car was found burning on a county road near the Red River north of Muenster, 18 miles (29 kilometers) northwest of Gainesville. Singh was sought on a capital murder warrant in the deaths of the two when his body was found.
