The City Council nominated and elected District 2 City Councilmember Carlos Flores as the new mayor pro tem at the June 24 City Council meeting. Flores succeeds former District 5 Councilmember Gyna Bivens, who did not seek reelection this year.
Flores, who has represented District 2 since June 2017, is a third-generation Fort Worth native with deep roots in the community. A graduate of Nolan Catholic High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin to major in aerospace engineering and minor in fine arts. Flores completed his degree studies at the University of Texas at Arlington.
The mayor pro tem serves as acting mayor when the mayor is absent or unable to perform their duties. If both the mayor and mayor pro tem are absent from a meeting, the City Council elects another member to preside temporarily.
