Dallas police chase ends in struggle, shooting; suspect killed

DALLAS (AP) — A suspicious person call led to a police chase on a busy Dallas interstate that ended with a wreck, a struggle between the suspect and officers, and the fatal shooting of the suspect.

A Dallas Police Department statement says the episode began about 3:45 p.m. Monday in Mesquite, a contiguous Dallas suburb. Mesquite officers spotted a person matching the description of the suspect, who got into a vehicle and sped away.

The ensuing chase continued on Interstate 635 through Garland, a neighboring suburb, until the suspect’s vehicle overturned just inside the Dallas city limits.

When the male suspect tried to flee on foot, he was overtaken by Mesquite and Garland officers, a struggled resulted and shots were fired. The suspect died about five hours later.
