DALLAS (AP) – The superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District has received a two-year contract extension but no raise.
Trustees early Tuesday approved the deal with Mike Miles, who makes about $300,000 annually. The agreement extends a contract that was set to expire next June 30.
School board members convened late Monday afternoon and after an hour-long public session discussed the superintendent’s contract behind closed doors for more than nine hours.
Miles says the extension shows the board supports education and staff improvements he’s made since being hired in 2012.
An independent investigation ordered last year by school board members cleared Miles of wrongdoing in the handling of a service contract. The review found Miles, who denied wrongdoing, violated district policy by talking to witnesses during an initial probe.
Dallas ISD has more than 157,000 students.
