Dallas school superintendent Mike Miles resigns

DALLAS (AP) – Dallas Independent School District superintendent Mike Miles has resigned, citing family reasons. Miles announced the resignation Tuesday and said it is effective Thursday.

Miles joined DISD in July 2012 after six years as superintendent of the Harrison School District in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He said it’s time to rejoin his family in Colorado.

Miles received a two-year contract extension last July but no raise. He made about $300,000 annually.

Miles, who this month fired three principals despite a school board vote to keep them, cited achievements including an updated teacher evaluation system. He also mentioned an increased focus on early childhood programs.
