SHERMAN, Texas (AP) — A former Dallas-area mayor and the developer she later married have been convicted of bribery and fraud in a public corruption case while she was in office.
Prosecutors in Sherman say Laura Jordan, known as Laura Maczka while mayor of Richardson, and Mark Jordan could each be sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
Both were convicted March 7 of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud, honest services wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bribery concerning a program receiving federal funds and bribery concerning a program receiving federal funds.
A 2018 indictment says Jordan paid Maczka, while mayor from May 2013 through April 2015, about $58,000 plus travel costs and other luxury benefits. He received the mayor’s support for zoning changes for new housing in Richardson.
The couple married in 2017.
