HOUSTON (AP) — A former Texas prison major has pleaded guilty to felony tampering for conspiring to plant screwdrivers in an inmate’s cell last year.
Juan Jackson faces four years of probation in the evidence-planting scheme at the W.F. Ramsey Unit in Brazoria County.
The Houston Chronicle reports that Jackson is one of four prison ex-officials indicted last year following an investigation into a disciplinary quota system that required officers to write up inmates or risk facing consequences themselves.
Former sergeant Marcus Gallegos also pleaded guilty and last year agreed to the same terms as Jackson.
They must both pay a $1,500 fine, abide by curfew rules and perform 120 hours of community service. They won’t face time behind bars and their records will be expunged.
Two other ex-officials haven’t entered pleas.
